RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM, Jan 11: Traffic jam has been severe in Rajarhat Upazila of the district in the absence of bypass road or flyover in Rajarhat Bazar in Rajarhat Upazila of the district in recent times.  Accidents are occurring regularly.

Public suffering is increasing gradually due to the traffic jam. Besides, because of the narrowed road of the bazar and unplanned shops along its roads and sewerage drains,  the traffic jam is created mostly. Most vehicles of the highways are moving on that narrowed  road in the upazila town.

Rangpur is about 49 kilometre (km) away from Kurigram. On the road from Kurigram to Rangpur, there is Teesta Bus Stand within 20km, and, on the way to Kurigram, Teesta Bus Stand is after 28km; the distance from Teesta Bus Stand to Kurigram via Rajathat is  about  20km. On the contrary, it is about 28km via Teesta-Kanthalbari. Because of the 8km road shortage, the narrowed Teesta-Rajarha road is used by many heavy vehicles. So, the traffic jam is always at Rajarhat Bazar on Teesta-Rajarhat and Kurigram-Rajarhat roads.

Along these two roads and Rajarhat-Nazimkhan Road, hundreds of shops  have been raised in unplanned ways.

Roads and Highways Department built unplanned sewerage systems along these roads. But these are not working but creating problem to pedestrian  movement.

There is always clogging of auto, van and others at Rajarhat Bazar and adjacent areas.

Rajarhat people have been demanding a bypass road from railgate of the Rajarhat-Kurigram road area to Rajarhart Bazar or a flyover.

Besides, Teesta-Rajarhat-Kurigram Road is good. But due to its poor width of 17/18 feet overtaking of vehicles on the  road causes accidents frequently.

Without careing traffic rules on Rajarhat-Teesta and Rajarhat-Kurigram roads, loaded trucks are un-loaded on the road in the day-time creating the traffic jam.

An auto-driver at Rajarhat Bazar Tuku Mia said, "We have to remain stranded for hours with passengers due to jam.  Then passengers become angry."

General Secretary (GS) of Rajarhat Upazila Business Association A Razzak said, if an auto-stand is not constructed out of the bazar, it will not be possible to solve the traffic jam.

Head Teacher of Rajarhat Adarsha BL High School Lutfur Rahman Ashu said, the traffic jam is not getting solved as there is no bypass road adjacent to Rajarhat  Railway Station at Rajarhat Bazar. The authorities should take rapid step, he added.

Rajarhat Press Club President Abdul Kuddus and GS  Prahalad Mandal Saikat said, "We have been demanding the bypass road for a long time. But authorities did not pay heed to us. The jam is increasing seriously."

Rajarhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Al Imran said, "I have just joined. I came to know the matter from you. In cooperation with all, necessary measures will be taken to solve the traffic jam at Rajarhat Bazar."
