DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA, Jan 11: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups over fish farming in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Hasanpur Village under Rifayetpur Union of the upazila at around 8 am.
Police and local sources said that former member of Rifayetpur Union Parishad Jahangir along with his people used to control a fish enclose and a local cropland in Hasanpur Village. Local people have been dissatisfied with them for long. Recently, one Ala of the village protested the occupiers, saying that he had a portion of land in the fish enclosure. On Thursday last, one Asarat Ali was also threatened by Jahangir over the same issue.
Following this, Ala and Asarat along with their supporters locked into a clash with Jahangir's men on Friday morning, which left at least 10 people from both groups injured.
Of the injured, five people were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station Nazmul Huda confirmed the incident, saying that additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further collision and legal action would be taken in this connection.
