NALITABARI, SHERPUR, Jan 11: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confiscated smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 2.3 crore during a drive in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Friday.
The operation was carried out at around 1:45 am by a BGB patrol team from the Ramchandrakura Camp in Panihata-Taltola area near the Indian border. The seized items included sarees, lehengas, sunglasses, and fancy gowns, smuggled in from India.
However, smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the goods upon detecting the presence of the patrol.
According to BGB sources, the drive was conducted based on intelligence. Items seized included 20,844 Indian sunglasses, 41 sarees, 10 large lehengas, four small lehengas, one fancy gown, and one fancy lehenga, collectively valued at approximately 2.3 crore taka.
Commanding Officer of Mymensingh BGB Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Sanbir Hasan Mazumdar confirmed the operation, adding that the BGB remains committed to combating smuggling and other cross-border crimes to ensure security along the borders.
