The second consignment of 26,935 tonnes of rice imported from India arrived at Chattogram Port on Sunday morning (January 12).

The port's Secretary Md Omar Faruk said that the Panama flag carrying 'MV SDR Universe' loaded with the rice anchored at a jetty of Chattogram port via Karnaphuli Channel during a tide around 11:30am.
Earlier, on 8 January, the vessel left Kakinada Sea Port of Andhra Pradesh State of India. The country received the first consignment of rice from India on December 26.

Bangladesh will import one lakh tonnes of rice from India in the first phase as per a Government to Government contract. The rice was imported under an open tender agreement, marking the second consignment of rice from India under the current interim government.

Samples of the rice will be collected and subjected to physical testing before unloading begins. All necessary preparations have been made to facilitate the unloading process, confirmed by the the Ministry of Food.
