12 shops gutted in Noakhali

12 shops were completely gutted in a fire that broke out in Noakhali's Maijdee upazila on Saturday night. 

The incident happened at midnights in Nupur Market and Hawkers Market in the upazila. 

Locals said that the saw the blaze at night in the market after the shop owners left the market. 
All of a sudden, the fire engulfed other shops.  

On information, 13 firefighter units rushed to scene and extinguished the fire after one hour of effort, said Abdul Halim Pasha, deputy assistant director of Maijdee Fire Service.
The extent of the damage of the fire is about Tk several crore, the owners of the shops claimed.

The fire might have originated from an electric short circuit, he added.
