Human chain demands reinstatement of dismissed BDR jawans in Meherpur

MEHERPUR, Jan 12: A human chain was held on Sunday in the district with the demand of releasing innocent BDR members detained for 16 years without trial in the farce case of Hasina's tyranny and the reinstatement of dismissed BDR jawans.

The human chain was formed in front of the Meherpur deputy commissioner's office at about 11:30am.

Dismissed and affected BDR members took part in the human chain along with their families and children.

Led by former BGB Sepoy Chief Coordinator Gias Uddin, former BDR members Habibur Rahman, Nahid, and Billah Hossain, among others, spoke.

Speakers said, in 2009, the barbaric and infernal murder in Pilkhana, which is a historical incident, created a stir across the country and in the international arena; the brutal murder was committed by the then murderer Hasina and the Indian "RAW" force; in retaliation, illegal courts were set up in all units including Pilkhana.

"We did not have freedom of speech in these courts. No lawyer was allowed to be appointed. Even the judge was the one who gave the punishment, which is probably not the case in any other country in the world. We have become very helpless. In view of which, 18,000 BDR members and their families are still living a hapless life."

The Pilkhana incident should be re-investigated and a proper trial should be held, and along with this, the innocent jawans who lost their jobs should be reinstated, they added.
