Four people murdered in four districts

Four men were murdered in separate incidents in four districts - Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Madaripur and Mymensingh.

KISHOREGANJ: A local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was killed in a clash between two groups over forming Tarail Upazila BNP committee in the district on Sunday.

The incident took place at Banail Bazar of the upazila at around 11 am.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hasan Ratan. He was the president of Rauti Union Unit of BNP in Tarail.

It was known that two groups of BNP were locked into a clash over forming the party's committee at Banail Bazar, which left Abul Hasan Ratan killed on the spot.  

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarail Police Station (PS) Md Sohel Mia confirmed the incident.

SYLHET: An expatriate was killed and five others were injured in a clash over a longstanding land dispute in Balaganj Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Atason Village under Pashchim Gauripur Union of the upazila in the afternoon.
 
The deceased was identified as Abdul Gafur, 45, son of late Ahmad Ali, a former union parishad member. Gafur had been working in Saudi Arabia and had recently come home on vacation.

Locals said that the dispute over land ownership between Abdul Gafur and his neighbour Dilu Mia had been going on for years.

The conflict escalated into violence on Saturday when both groups equipped with indigenous weapons and engaged in a deadly confrontation. During the clash, Abdul Gafur was critically injured and rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Balaganj PS OC Md Farid Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a murder case with the PS is underway and legal action would be taken in this regard.

MANIKGANJ: A man was beaten to death by his rivals following a clash between two groups over playing badminton in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Friday night. 

The incident took place in Mandarta area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Yusuf Bepary, 57, a resident of the area. 

Locals said that one Siraj Bepary got into an altercation with Didar and Liton during playing Badminton. Following this, about 10 to 12 people including Liton, Didar and Lmes forcefully dragged Yusuf Bepary, father of Siraj, out of his house, and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. 

Injured Yusuf was then rescued and taken to a local hospital. Later on, the on-duty doctor there transferred him to Manikganj Medical College Hospital for better treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The deceased's family members sought justice over the murder. 

MYMENSINGH: A teenage boy, who was critically injured after being stabbed by a friend in Gafargaon Upazila of the district, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Pagla PS OC Ferdous Alam confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding that the deceased's family filed a formal complaint.

Deceased SM Shahadat Hossain Joy, 19, was the son of Awlad Hossain, a resident of Balipara Village under Dutter Bazaar Union in Gafargaon Upazila.

Accused Sabbir Mia, 23, is a resident of Kaza Village in the neighbouring Langair Union.  

According to the deceased's family members, on Wednesday afternoon, Sabbir called Joy out of his home to meet at Moshakhali Bazaar. During their interaction, an argument broke out, leading to Sabbir stabbing Joy and fleeing the scene. 

Locals informed Joy's family who rushed him to DMCH. After battling for his life for two days, Joy succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.
