BARISHAL, Jan 12: Sufferings of city-dwellers are increasing due to apathy and negligence of the responsible men in Barishal City Corporation (BCC).
BCC administration and acting councillors are yet to restore development activities for the citizen services.
Work of waste cleaning is going on usually. But sewerage management, water supply and streetlight development are dissatisfying the city dwellers.
After the August 5 Student-People Movement, the BCC mayor and most of the councillors of 30 wards fled away.
Divisional commissioner has been made the administrator. People of different professions have been made acting councillors.
But their offices are not yet ready.
It has been difficult for the administrator to see affairs of the BCC after doing all works of six districts of the division. That is why he has to do office in Nagar Bhaban from evening to night.
Construction and repairing of 165 small and big roads with 55 kilometre (km) RCC drains began in the city during the time of elected mayor and councillors. Most of these are now at the finishing stage.
An allegation is there that most of the development works are not seen by responsible engineers.
Nabagram Road is flooded due to a little rain. Its half part has been blocked for construction materials of a multi-storey building. The drain of the road from Battala to Choumohani is blocked because of brick, chips and sands. Most of the manholes are missing.
In the last 15 years, no repairing was made to Rajkumar Ghosh Road at Ward No. 22. The executive engineer invited tender to appoint contractor. But the project is in the next year's list.
BCC Administrator Md Rayhan Kawsar was not available for his comment in this regard.
But when contacted, BCC's chief executive officer said, it is taking time to overcome all things.
All possible things are being done to ensure citizen services, he added.
