BCB confirms Shakib's failure in second bowling test in Chennai

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday confirmed that the suspension of allrounder Shakib Al Hasan from bowling in cricket competitions will remain in place.

Shakib's bowling action was reported by the on-field umpires during his stint with Surrey County Cricket Club in September last year.

Thereafter he took part in bowling test twice--firstly in England and secondly in India. But on both tests, his action found to be illegal.

"National team allrounder Shakib Al Hasan remains suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) based on the outcome of an independent re-assessment conducted at Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai, India last month," the BCB confirmed in a press release.

"Consequently, the player's existing suspension from bowling in international cricket following the initial independent assessment at the testing centre of Loughborough University in the UK, also remains in place."

But BCB made it clear that Shakib can still play International and domestic cricket as a batter only.

"A successful reassessment is required for the bowling suspension to be lifted. While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is eligible to continue playing as a batsman in all forms of domestic and international cricket," the release added.

The release further said that no further comments on the matter will be made by the BCB at this time.

Bangladesh will announce its team for the next month's Champions Trophy very soon. And after his failure in bowling test, Shakib looked uncertain to get a place in Bangladesh squad.

He earlier expressed his desire to end his career after the Champions Trophy.    —BSS
