Gold theft mystery solved, 3 arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) of police has unearthed the mystery of a sensational theft at a gold shop in Simanta Sambhar Shopping Complex at Dhanmondi in the city, arresting three suspects with stolen gold ornaments.

The arrested were identified as Md Rubel, 28, Shafiq alias Sohel, 35, and Saddam Hossain, 31. The DB of Lalbagh Division conducted a series of raids from Thursday to Saturday and arrested the trio from Companiganj and Muradnagar areas of Cumilla district. During the raid, 50.8 tolas of stolen gold ornaments were recovered from their possession.
M Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of DB (South) disclosed this at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre in the city Sunday morning.

"A total of three people involved in the theft were arrested by DB police and according to their confessions, 50.8 tolas of stolen gold worth about Tk 70 lakh was recovered from their possession," he said.
