The latest development of attaining 'Special Status' was taken by Dhaka University (DU) after a high-profile interaction between the Chief Adviser of interim government Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus and Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan.
On Saturday, the meeting, held in the evening at the State Guest House Jamuna, focused on the university's historic contributions and future development needs.
Urging the fulfillment of long-term objectives, Chief Adviser was glad over the advancement of Dhaka University and showed all readiness to cooperate with it in future endeavours. He assured the proposed development of 'Special Status' and all support for proposed residential halls, endowment fund and infrastructure development plans.
As it was emphasized by the DU Vice-Chancellor regarding certain pressing challenges the university faces, the major one being housing for students. Therefore, it was suggested to have more hostels built immediately.
The VC brought up the proposal of creating a 'Special Endowment Fund' to provide scholarships to first-year students from low-income families. In order to provide students with appropriate medical treatment, he also presented a strong case for quick and modernizing actions at the university medical centre.
