A 13-kilometer-long traffic jam has been created at Gazaria section on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Munshiganj. Commuters are stuck in the traffic jam for a long time and are suffering from slow movement.
According to Highway Police, on Monday (January 13) at around 7 am, a road accident and vehicle breakdown occurred in the Cumilla-bound lane in Baushia area of Gajaria section of the highway. As time passed, it spread to the 13-kilometer area of Gajaria section of the highway.
A truck driver named Shafiq said, "We have been facing traffic jams since crossing the Meghna Bridge. I don't know what caused the traffic jam."
A bus driver, Qurban Ali, said, "It took an hour to reach Bhaberchar bus stand from Jamaldi. I don't know how long it will take to reach our destination."
Humayun Kabir, in-charge of the Ghazaria Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost, said that the process of removing the accident-hit and broken-down vehicles from the highway is underway. Vehicles are moving slowly, and traffic will return to normal soon.
