Dismissed trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th (cadet) SI batch of Bangladesh Police on Monday staged sit-in outside the secretariat demanding to get back their jobs.
Since 10AM, the protesters, holding different placards with their demands, have taken position in front of Osmani Udyan, opposite to secretariat gate no 1.
The protesting SIs said that dismissed 321 sub-inspectors observed peaceful demonstration on January 5 and 6 in front of the Home Ministry. Later, a delegation met with the home secretary. They were assured of action, but no visible progress has since been made.
Until a specific decision is made, they said that they will continue the sit-in.
Minhaj Uddin, one of the protesters, alleged that they were discharged on trivial charges. This mass dismissal is unprecedented in the history of Police Academy Sardah.
They will continue the protest till 5PM, Minhaj added.
A total of 321 trainees were dismissed in phases, accusing them of breaching discipline during their training period just one month before graduation.
