The Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has expelled 28 students for one year due to their involvement in ragging first-year students.
The announcement was made early Monday morning by Bazlur Rahman Molla, Provost of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall.
The incident, which occurred on January 11, led to allegations of ragging against 28 resident students of Suhrawardy Hall. Following a thorough investigation, the university authorities enforced disciplinary action under Ordinance No. 7 of the university’s regulations.
Bazlur Rahman Molla also stated that further actions would be taken against 25 non-resident students implicated in the same incident.
Professor Dr. Md Abdul Aleem, the university’s proctor, revealed that the ragging incident was severe enough to cause one student to lose consciousness. "We have taken strict punitive measures to send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated on campus," he added.
The university's decisive response aims to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students and prevent similar incidents in the future.
