KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR, Jan 13: A man strangled his wife with a scarf following a heated argument over suspicion of an extramarital affair in Kamalganj Upazila of the district in Sunday. The incident took place in Alepur Village of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Monwara Begum, 30, and the accused is Azad Box, 62, of Dakshin Baligaon Village under Kamalganj Sadar Union.
According to police and local sources, Azad married Monwara in 2023 after a romantic relationship. Monwara lived at her parental home in Alepur Village. Recently, Azad became suspicious of her involvement with another man which led to frequent altercations between them.
On Sunday morning, Azad visited Monwara's parental home in Alepur, and during an argument, strangled her with a scarf inside the house. After committing the crime, he went to Kamalganj Police Station (PS) and surrendered himself. Later on, police recovered the body of Monwara and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Kamalganj PS Syed Iftekhar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
