KAWKHALI, PIROJPUR, Jan 13: A local leader of Bangladesh Islami Andolon was hacked by his rivals over a land dispute in Kawkhali Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Saturia Village of the upazila at around 8 pm.
The victim is Ali Hossain, 72, president of Kawkhali Upazila unit of Islami Andolan.
Police, however, arrested Rokya Begum, 50, and her sister Kohinur Begum, 40, in connection with the incident.
Injured Ali Hossain said, "My brother bought a land from the daughters of late Amzad Hossain of the area. They could not hand over the land to my brother and filed several cases against us. But they lost all cases. In spite of losing all the cases, they did not hand over the land because they were involved with Awami League politics. On Sunday morning, I went to the land to cut a tree. At that time, the two sisters barred me from cutting the tree, causing an altercation between us. During the altercation, Rokya and Kahinur stabbed me twice in the back. Hearing my screams, locals rescued me and took me to Kawkhali Upazila Health Complex."
Officer-in-Charge of Kawkhali Police Station Md Solayman confirmed the incident, adding a case was filed in this regard.
