Jamaat activist killed in clash with BNP in Kushtia

KUSHTIA, Jan 13: An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and 18 others were injured in a clash between the supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami over an enmity of electing the president of the school managing committee at Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Khokon Molla, 35, son of Nousher Molla of Burapara in the upazila.

Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said there has been enmity between Nasim Reza Mukul, ameer of Amla union unit Jamaat-e-Islami and local BNP activist Rashed Mahmud Nasir centering the president post of the ad hoc committee of Murapara Secondary High School committee.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the area over the committee as both Mukul and Nasir were the candidates for the post.
A meeting is scheduled to be held over the issue on the school premises on Monday morning.

On Monday morning, a clash ensued between the two groups when they gathered in the area centering the meeting, leaving 19 people injured.    —UNB

Of the injured six people got admitted at Mirpur Upazila Health Complex while the others got admitted to the 150-bed Kushtia General Hospital.

Among the injured, Khokon died on way to Dhaka Ibn Sina Hospital from Kushtia General Hospital, said Prof Mawlana Abul Hashem, ameer of Kushtia district unit Jamaat-e-Islami.

The leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami also condemned the killing of their fellow and demanded exemplary punishment of the killers.--UNB
