Law enforcers have arrested two prominent leaders of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in two separate raids in Satkhira and Jashore districts.
These arrests were made in connection with various criminal cases and attempts to evade legal proceedings.
Susmita Pandey, the former organizational secretary of Eden College Chhatra League, was arrested on Monday along with her younger brother, Satyajit Pandey, while attempting to flee to India via Benapole Immigration Checkpoint.
Benapole Immigration Police Station OC Ebrahim Ahmed confirmed the arrest, stating that Susmita was intercepted during immigration clearance. Upon questioning, she admitted to being an accused in a murder case in Dhaka's New Market area. She claimed to be traveling to India for medical treatment.
The Pandey siblings, hailing from the Satdoha area of Magura, were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station for further investigation.
Earlier, on Sunday, police arrested Benazir Hossain Nishi, the joint general secretary of the central committee of banned BCL, from Debhata, Satkhira. According to Debhata Police Station officer-in-charge Hazrat Ali, Nishi was apprehended based on a tip-off while staying at the residence of a Debhata Upazila Health Complex's health assistant, Rashidul Islam.
Nishi, a former president of the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall unit of Dhaka University, had been on the run since August 5. Multiple cases are pending against her in Dhaka and other areas. Following her arrest, she was placed under the custody of Detective Branch (DB) of police for interrogation and authorities are taking further legal action.
