The High Court (HC) on Monday sought specific information about the present status of courtrooms in the country where iron cages are still used to keep the accused during case proceedings.

The HC bench, comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, issued the directive after Deputy Attorney General Md Tanim Khan verbally informed the court that iron cages have been removed from some courtrooms. The HC also directed the law secretary to submit, within four weeks, the names of the courtrooms where iron cages are still in place.
The HC fixed 10 February for further hearing of the petition.
