Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan on Monday met  Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at State Guest House Jamuna and apprised him about progress in academic and student affairs.

This information was posted on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser.

He said that the roadmap of  the much-anticipated Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) has been unveiled.

According to the roadmap the election schedule would be announced on February 1, 2025, he said.

The draft voter list was published on January 10.

He said that the JUCSU election has been held  nine times since the university was set up in 1971 and that JUCSU has been inactive for almost 33 years.

The last election was held in 1992.

He also said that since he joined as the Vice Chancellor the budget and spending on research have been increased and the fee for first-year admission form has been reduced.

Dr Yunus appreciated the role of the students and teachers of the university during the July mass uprising. He also expressed his satisfaction at the academic progress at JU.

He said if the university wished, it could hold the JUCSU election in accordance with its roadmap.

"If you can do it, then do it. You can take the leadership role in this regard," he said, referring to the plan to hold the JUCSU election soon.

Prof Ahsan briefed the Chief Adviser about the cases filed over the attacks on students and journalists during the mass uprising. He said the university spent  Tk 37 lakh for the treatment of injured students and teachers.

Pro-VCs, Prof Mahfuzur Rahman and Prof Sohel Ahmed and treasurer Prof Abdur Rob were present at the meeting.
