Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in an anti-smuggling operation seized Indian smuggled goods worth over Tk 1.19 crore and arrested two individuals near the border areas of Parshuram and Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Nazrul Islam, 27, from Joynagar village in Chhagalnaiya upazila, and Md. Rabiul Hasan, 26, from Charpeshan village in Bhola district.
According to sources, members of Feni BGB Battalion-4 conducted the operation in areas under their jurisdiction, including Majumdarhat, Debpur, Champaknagar, and Alinagar near the Bangladesh-India border in Feni and Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram. During the raid, BGB seized Indian sarees, lehengas, sugar, marijuana, whiskey, boats, and a pickup truck.
The estimated market value of the confiscated items is tk 1,18,95,500. The seized contraband was handed over to Feni Customs, while the drugs were handed over to the Department of Narcotics Control in Feni.
A case has been filed at Feni Model Police Station and the arrested individuals have been handed over to law enforcement.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Director of BGB-4, stated that BGB conducts regular operations to curb smuggling along the border and will continue such efforts to ensure border security and prevent illegal trade.
