The Department of Environment (DoE) conducted a mobile court operation in Mymensingh's Gouripur upazila and imposed a fine of Tk 14 lakh to six illegal brick kilns on Tuesday.
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sunanda Sarkar Proma. Inspector Md. Rukun Mia of the Department of Forests and Environment, Mymensingh, was also present during the operation.
The mobile court found the brick kilns in violation of the Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kilns Control Act of 2013, amended in 2019, specifically under Section 5(2). Penalties were imposed under Section 15(1), with fines distributed as follows: Tk 2,00,000 each to SM Bricks, and Bhuiyan bricks; Tk 3,00,000 each to Shamsu Bricks, NGM Bricks, and Chacha-Bhatija Bricks and Tk 1,00,000 to Ekota Bricks.
The total fines were collected on the spot and deposited into the state treasury. The operation was supported by Gauripur Police.
Magistrate Sunanda Sarkar Proma confirmed the fines and emphasized that such operations will continue to protect the environment.
