Child drowns in Patuakhali

A child drowned in a pond at Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali district on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at Arajbegi village under Ward No 6 in Dashmina's Sadar union.

The deceased was identified as Tauhid, two and a half years old, son of Shopon Mridha, a resident of the area.

Family members said that the child went missing while playing in the yard of their house. Sensing his absence, the family members began to search and found him floating in a pond next to their house. He was rescued and taken to Dashmina Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor, Dr HM Alvi Ahmed, declared him dead.
