Sirajganj's Chauhali upazila BNP organising secretary Fakir Mohammad Jewel Rana has been expelled from the party on charge of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old adolescent.
A letter, signed by the district party office secretary Tanvir Mahmud Polash, confirmed this on Tuesday night.
The letter said, Jewel has been expelled from all party posts for violating the party's discipline and tarnishing the party's image.
Sirajganj district BNP president Rumana Mahmud and general secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu approved the decision. The central committee has been informed about the matter.
The victim's father on Monday evening filed a case against Jewel Rana.
A physical test was done on the girl on Tuesday. But it takes time to get the report, said Chauhali Police Station OC Ziaur Rahman.
On Sunday (January 12), upazila BNP served a show cause notice to Jewel, and after an initial inquiry, they recommended his expulsion to the district committee.
