An unidentified armed group reportedly abducted seven day labourers at gunpoint from Lulaing Bazar in Sarai union of Lama upazila, Bandarban, at around 11.45PM Tuesday night.
However, the identities of the abductees and the group, who are behind the abduction, are yet to be confirmed.
According to the local sources, the workers came from Lohagara, Chakaria, Manikpur, and neighbouring districts to work in vegetable fields along the banks of the Luline canal.
Meanwhile, the abductors have reportedly called the victim’s family members for Tk 1.9 lakh as ransoms.
Inspector Md Atiqur Rahman, in charge of the Lama Kayaju Para Police Outpost, said that joint forces have already launched an operation to rescue the abductees.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted workers.
