A fire destroyed at least 26 rooms across three eco-resorts in Galachipa on Saint Martin's Island early Tuesday morning.
Fortunately, no tourists were harmed in the incident.
According to Saint Martin Union Parishad chairman Mujibur Rahman said the fire began around 2:10 AM in a room at Shayari Eco Resort and quickly spread to the neighboring Beach Valley and Kingshuk Eco Resort. The hospitality room of Shayari Eco Resort, 18 rooms of Beach Valley, and seven rooms of Kingshuk Eco Resort were completely destroyed.
The blaze, fueled by strong winds, was brought under control around 4 AM by the Navy personnel along with local residents and tourists. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, an electrical short circuit is suspected.
