GURUDASPUR, NATORE, Jan 15: A college student reportedly committed suicide in Gurudaspur Upazila of the district on Wednesday after hearing the death news of his lover, who consumed poison on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Rakibul Hasan, 18, and Atia Khatun, 28, wife of expatriate Mukhtar Hossain.
Local sources said that Atia had an extramarital affair with college student Rakibul. As the matter came into light, Atia consumed poisonous gas tablets on Tuesday night.
Sensing the matter, the family members rescued Atia and admitted her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Later on, she died at the RMCH on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.
Hearing the news of his lover's death, Rakibul committed suicide by hanging himself in the house at around 7:30 am.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
Officer-in-Charge of Gurudaspur Police Station Golam Sarwar confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
