CHATTOGRAM, Jan 15: A four member team of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) is scheduled to visit Bangladesh from January 19 to January 26 to monitor security issues and shipping facilities at the Chattogram port.
The team will visit the installations of Chattogram Port from January 21 to January 23, said Muhammad Omar Faruk, Secretary of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).
The US visiting team will ensure that the Chattogram port is following the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which was introduced by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2004 last.
The CPA is taking this visit very seriously even though CPA officials say this is a routine visit by the US Coast Guard.
The US security monitoring team visited Bangladesh in August 2022.
The US team will visit Chittagong port to inspect various security issues at port facilities. "We have enough preparation for the visit," said CPA Secretary Omar Faruq.
The visiting team will visit CPA Yard, Jetties, Container Freight Station Port gate, CCTV Camera facilties, security system, Private ICD etc.
The ISPS Code came into force in 2004 as an amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention on maritime security arrangements for ships, ports, and government agencies.
