Bangladesh will seek a reduction in loan interest rate and an extension of the repayment period by 30 years from China during the upcoming visit of Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

"Mainly, economic issues will come up for discussion. Some issues are very important. Bangladesh's trade and economic relations with China are very important," Touhid told reporters at a briefing on his Beijing visit at the foreign ministry on Wednesday.

The adviser said he will also request withdrawal of commitment fees as part of efforts to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

Foreign adviser's official visit to China, scheduled for January 20-24, marks a pivotal moment in Bangladesh-China relations and comes at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.    —BSS
