The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reform Commission, led by its chairman Iftekharuzzaman, who is also the Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), on Wednesday, presented its report to Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus. The report contains 47 recommendations, including recognising the Anti-Corruption Commission as a constitutional institution instead of a 'statutory body'.
The Reform Commission also proposed a constitutional commitment against the abuse of power, the formulation of an anti-corruption strategy, the establishment of an ombudsman, and the permanent abolition of provisions allowing the whitening of black money.
Speaking to the media before submitting the report around 11:30 am, ACC Reform Commission Chairman Iftekharuzzaman said, "The ACC is currently a statutory institution, but it needs to be recognised as a constitutional entity. We want the ACC to be independent and effective. However, this independence must have limits. We have developed a comprehensive set of reform recommendations."
