A court in Dhaka has sentenced three people to death for the murder of a man in Savar about 12 years ago over previous enmity.
Dhaka Additional District and Sessions Court-5 Judge Israt Jahan Munni delivered the verdict in the case on Thursday. The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.
The convicts are -- Kazi Ahsan Taqbir, a resident of Pirojpur, Md Kajol, hails Rangpur, and Lal Chan from Savar.
Among three convicts, only Kajol was present during the verdict while two are absconding. The court has issued arrest warrant for them.
According to case documents, on July 17, 2013, Lal Chan called the victim Zahid Hossain away from his house. He was taken to the Hizalpara area of Arapara, hacked with a weapon and seriously injured.
Locals rescued him and took him to Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit.
The victim’s father, Hajji Md Anowar Hossain, filed a murder case with the Savar Model Police Station.
On August 30, 2015, Sub Inspector Jahidul Islam from the north Dhaka district wing of the Detective Branch filed the chargesheet in the case.
