ACC sues ex-railway minister Zillul, family over graft

Former railway minister Md Zillul Hakim

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former railway minister Md Zillul Hakim, his wife Sayeeda Hakim, and their son Ashiq Mahmood Mitul on charges of acquiring illegal assets and conducting suspicious transactions through their bank accounts.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain on Thursday (January 16) acknowledged the matter and said the case has been filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The ACC case documents said Zillul Hakim amassed illigal weaths of Tk 24.29 crore beyond known sources of income, while his wife holds illegal wealth worth Tk 4.27 crore, and his son Ashiq Mahmood holds Tk 2.62 crore.

Besides, the ACC has information about unusual and suspicious transiction deposits totaling Tk 145.44 crore in 19 bank accounts linked to Zillul Hakim and various companies he owns.
