BCL leader Nishi sent to jail after remand in student assault case

Benazir Hossain Nishi, joint general secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), has been sent to jail after end of her two-day remand in a case filed over assaulting students of Dhaka University (DU) during student movement last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order on Thursday after police produced Nishi before the court after end of her remand and pleaded to keep her behind the bars.

Earlier, on January 14, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak placed Nishi on a two-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, on July 15, leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organisations carried out attack on the students on DU premises, leaving more than 300 students got injured in the attack.
On October 28, DU student Arman Hossain filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station against 220 people, including BCL president Saddam Hossain.
