Local boy Tamim Iqbal continued his rich vein of form to hit 48 ball-61 as Fortune Barishal crushed Dhaka Capital by eight wickets in the first match of the Chattogram phase of Bangladesh Premier
League (BPL) on Thursday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Dhaka Capital, which posted BPL record 254-1 in their previous match for a 149-run win over Durbar Rajshahi, this time could put up only 139 before being all out in 19.3 overs.
Barishal effortlessly gunned down the total by reaching 145-2 in 16.3 overs with former England star Dawid Malan, playing his first match in this season, giving the finishing touch with 41 ball-49 not out.
Jahandad Khan who was unbeaten on 13 along with him, confirmed the victory with a six.
But Tamim played the anchor role despite losing Najmul Hossain Shanto (2) cheaply. He shared 117-run with Malan for the second wicket in which he dominated fully to hit six fours and one six.
With the side just 15 runs away from the victory, Tamim was dismissed by Dhaka captain Thisara Perera. However, his dismissal mattered little in fact with Malan in supreme touch also.
Earlier, after electing to bat first, Dhaka Capital struggled to tick the scoreboard right from the outset. Liton Das who smashed a record-breaking century in the last match took 10 balls to open his account before being out for just 13 off 17.
The Dhaka innings was all about of Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who followed his 108 in the last match with 44 ball-62, hitting two fours and four sixes.
Amid the wickets tumbling around him, he held other end firmly and became the seventh batter out after helping the side go past 100. Farmanullah Shafi with 22 runs was the other notable scorer.
Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam took 3-39 while Pakistan recruit Fahim Ashraful scalped 2-23 to wreck havoc on Dhaka.
The victory in the last match remained Dhaka's only victory in eight matches. Barishal put them in the second spot with fourth victory in six matches.
