Two people, who were arrested over an attack on a gathering of a group of students of ethnic minority students in front of NCTB, Motijheel, were sent to jail.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Thursday after police produced Arif Al Khabir and Md Abbas before the court and pleaded to keep them behind the bars.
Police arrested Arif and Abbas Wednesday night.
Earlier, on Wednesday morning, a student organisation named ‘Students for Sovereignty’ besieged the NCTB building to press their five-point demand, including punishment for those involved with incorporation of the word "adivasi" (indigenous) and a map of undivided India in textbooks.
At the same location, another group, under the banner of ‘Aggrieved Students and People of the Hill Tracts’, went to the NCTB premises to hold a programme for restoring the 'indigenous' graffiti in textbooks.
When the students of ethnic minority students approached the NCTB premises, a scuffle broke out between two sides at around 1PM, leaving eight to nine persons injured.
The Interim Government has strongly condemned the attack on a peaceful gathering of a group of ethnic minority students in front of NCTB, Motijheel on Wednesday.
Besides, it has ordered an investigation into the attack, while two persons have already been arrested in connection with the incident, said a statement issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Thursday.
"Other perpetrators are being identified and will soon be arrested. All miscreants will be brought to justice," it read.
Imbibed in the true spirits of the July mass uprising, the government reiterates in unequivocal terms that there is no place for mob violence, racial hatred, and bigotry in Bangladesh.
The government has warned that anyone involved in activities that harm harmony, peace, and law and order shall face stern actions without discrimination, according to the statement.
