Fortune Barishal cruised to an effortless eight-wicket victory over Dhaka Capitals in the first match of the Chattogram phase of the BPL at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Thursday after Captain's knock from Tamim Iqbal.

Dhaka won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled to build partnerships as Barishal's bowlers maintained tight control taking wickets at regular intervals. Dhaka were bowled out for 139 runs in 19.3 overs.

Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the lone fighter for Dhaka scoring his second consecutive fifty-plus innings of the season. He made 62 runs off 44 balls hitting two fours and four sixes. However, the rest of the Dhaka batting lineup faltered. Liton Das, who had impressed with scores of 73 and 125 in the Sylhet phase, managed just 13 runs off 17 balls. Sabbir Rahman contributed 10 runs off 10 balls, while skipper Thisara Perera fell for a duck. Afghan all-rounder Farmanullah provided some resistance with a 22-run cameo off 16 balls including a four and two sixes.

For Barishal, spinner Tanvir Islam was the standout bowler taking 3 wickets, while Fahim Ashraf chipped in with 2 wickets.
Needing 140, Barishal's chase was anchored by their skipper Tamim Iqbal, who was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 61 runs off 48 balls including six fours and a six. After the early dismissal of Nazmul Hossain Shanto for just two runs, Tamim forged a crucial 117-run partnership off 80 balls with English batter Dawid Malan. Malan, playing his first match in the ongoing BPL, remained unbeaten on 49 runs off 41 balls hitting three fours and a six. Pakistani batter Jahandad Khan finished the match in style smashing 13 runs off just four balls with two sixes as Barishal comfortably chased the target reaching 140 for two in just 16 overs.

With this win, Fortune Barishal moved up to second place in the points table, securing 8 points from four wins in six matches.
