Why not proclaim to unite nation: JamaatBNP raises question over the necessity of 'July Declaration' after five and half months of the ouster of the fascist Awami League government whereas, all other political parties are in favour of publishing the manifesto with some amendments.

Students, Nagorik Committee and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement did not declare any deadline for the 'July Declaration.'

On Thursday the interim government sat in an 'all-party' meeting to finalise the 'July Declaration' based on a national consensus.

The meeting began at 4:30pm at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, led by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed and representatives of other political parties joined the meeting.

Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting Salahuddin Ahmad, said that they have asked the interim government to ensure that there is no rift in anti-fascist unity centring the July Declaration.

He also asked the interim government about the necessity of 'July Declaration' after five and half months of the successful Student-People movement.

Salahuddin said, "BNP always respects a political document which bear the historical dignity.  But before forming these kinds of documents I suggest to take all advice from all stakeholders of the Student-People movement."

Salahuddin Ahmed said, "We have to practice the national unity that has been created through the July-August mass uprising. We have to transform the unity of the anti-fascism into political culture."

"With this unity our nation has to move forward, this is our biggest upcoming challenges," he said.

Salahuddin said, "We need to keep in mind that fascist forces are hatching conspiracy to sow the seeds of dissatisfaction within us."

The BNP leader said, "The chief adviser called us today, we have come, we have talked. We have given our advice, state management and various thoughts we need to give."

Responding to a question, Salahuddin said, "There has been some discussion on the July Declaration. Leaders of all political parties have given their opinion."

"We have asked whether there was any need for the declaration of mass uprising in July five and a half months later. If it is, it has to determine what its political and historical and legal importance," he said.

A four -member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami participated at the meeting. After the meeting Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar spoke to journalist.

He said the government had called for political parties to discuss about the July Declaration. We have given our opinion at the all-party meeting.

"All political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, agree that the declaration of July uprising should be proclaimed to hold national unity," said Parwar.

He said, "However, many of the government's drafts from the government did not get timely to finalize the declaration."

Parwar said, "We have suggested that such a valuable declaration of the government needs time. However, many basic things have been dropped from the declaration."

He said Islamic power in Bangladesh is a major force, they were abused in the anti-fascist movement, many people were martyred, innocent were hanged, disappeared, killed in crossfire. The true history of this oppression did not feature in the July declaration.

"We have said that the process needs to be such that stakeholders, including all parties, can give their opinion," said Parwar.

CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince told to the Daily Observer on Thursday, "I got a small massage form Chief Advisor's office at around 1:30 pm. The meeting definitely carries importance. But on short notice it was not possible for  Bam Gonotrantrik Jote to attend the meeting .

Md Saiful Haque, General Secretary of the Biplobi Workers Party and top leader of the Ganatrantra Mancha, said that, he does not want to make any comment on the issue.

He said, "Our representative attended  the meeting but Mahmudur Rahman Manna, one of the leaders of the political platform and Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu did not attend the meeting."

Earlier, the interim government initiated the process of preparing a declaration on the July uprising, based on a national consensus.
