Sarjis Alam has resigned from his position as the general secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, which was established to provide healthcare, financial assistance, and long-term support to the families of those martyred and injured in the July massacre.

Sarjis Alam himself shared the information on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday morning.

In a Facebook post, Sarjis Alam said, "I am not the general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Changes have been made to the constitution, structure and working process of the foundation to accelerate the pace of this foundation. From now on, the executive committee will manage the overall affairs of the entire office. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will serve as the head of the office there. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho is currently serving as the CEO."

He further said, "The governing body will work on the policy making of the foundation, which has four advisers (health, social welfare, local government, ICT) including the Chief Adviser. There is no post os General Secretary at present."

Regarding the foundation's activities, Sarjis said, "This foundation first started financial support on October 1, and the office started on October 15. I took charge as the general secretary on October 21. I served for about 2 months and 10 days until December 31. After that, I stepped down from my duties. My signing authority was transferred on January 7 and I officially ended my duties."

Stating that he did not take any salary or allowance while performing his duties, Sarjis said, "I did not take any salary or honorarium from the foundation while performing this duty. As of December 31, 628 of the 826 verified martyr families were provided with financial assistance. In addition, about 2,000 of the nearly 11,000 verified injured were provided with financial assistance."

He further said, "I have fulfilled my responsibilities as long as I was able to devote my maximum time to the foundation. When it seemed that it would not be possible for me to devote the required time to the foundation from now on, I stepped down from the responsibility. For me, addressing my limitations and accepting or relinquishing responsibility accordingly is not a weakness, but rather it takes courage. I have tried to be honest with the responsibilities of my chair."
