Tarique's ex-APS discharged from money laundering case

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, former assistant personal secretary (APS) to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been discharged from a money laundering case.

January 27, was set for holding a hearing on charge framing.

Judge Md Rezaul Karim of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 passed the order on Monday as the court found no evidence in the case to frame charges against Apu.

The defence filed the discharge petition, while the prosecution argued for indicting the accused. After hearing both sides, the court discharged the accused from the case.

According to the case document, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on December 24 in 2018, raided an office situated at Motijheel City Centre and recovered huge amount of money. RAB officials at the time alleged that the money was hoarded there to influence the then elections.

RAB-3 filed the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 with Motijheel police station. Investigating officer of CID (Financial Crime), Inspector Ibrahim Hossain submitted the charge sheet to the court on June 13, 2021, accusing seven people.
