The holy month of Ramadan is a time of immense spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide. Every obligatory act of worship during this month carries the reward of 70 obligatory acts, and every voluntary act of worship is equivalent to an obligatory one. Among the many blessed days in Ramadan, Jummah (Friday) holds a unique and profound importance, as emphasized in the Quran and Hadith.
In the Quran, Allah says:
"O you who believe! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off business. That is better for you, if only you knew. Then, when the prayer is concluded, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often so that you may succeed." (Surah Al-Jumu'ah, 9-10)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also highlighted the significance of Jummah in several Hadiths. Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"The five daily prayers, one Jummah to the next, and one Ramadan to the next are expiations for the sins committed between them, provided one avoids major sins." (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 233)
Another Hadith states:
"Whoever performs Ghusl (ritual bath) on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, applies perfume or uses scented oils, then goes to the mosque without pushing through the crowd, performs the prescribed prayers, and remains silent when the Imam delivers the Khutbah (sermon), his sins between this Jummah and the next will be forgiven." (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 910)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said:
"A single night in Ramadan, blessed with divine mercy, is better than a thousand months. Allah has made fasting during this month obligatory and standing in prayer at night a voluntary act of worship. Whoever performs a voluntary act of worship during Ramadan will receive the reward of an obligatory act, and whoever performs an obligatory act will receive the reward of 70 obligatory acts." (Bayhaqi)
Given the immense blessings of Jummah, especially during Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to observe the following practices with special care:
1. Prepare for Jummah by purifying yourself: Perform Ghusl, brush your teeth or use Miswak, apply perfume if possible, and wear clean, modest clothing.
2. Arrive early at the mosque: Strive to reach the mosque before the Khutbah begins. Sit close to the Imam if possible, but avoid pushing through the crowd if you arrive late. Instead, sit wherever space is available.
3. Listen attentively to the Khutbah: Remain silent during the sermon and avoid unnecessary conversation. If you need to remind someone to be quiet, do so with a gesture.
4. Perform the Jummah prayer with sincerity: Focus on your prayer and strive to perfect it, as it is a key act of worship on this blessed day.
By observing these practices, Muslims can maximize the spiritual benefits of Jummah during Ramadan, seeking Allah's forgiveness, mercy, and blessings. This sacred day serves as a weekly opportunity for renewal and reflection, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
