Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) is set to establish a dedicated platform for doctors, aiming to enhance the healthcare sector and safeguard medical professionals' interests.

On Saturday, March 8, Muntasir Mahmud, Central Organizer, NCP confirmed this to Daily Observer.

Formed by participants of the July Revolution, the party officially launched on 28 February in a grand ceremony and has since garnered significant public attention.

Doctors played a pivotal role in the July Revolution, bravely treating the injured despite threats from the autocratic regime. Acknowledging their contributions, the NCP is now mobilising medical professionals under its banner.

Since the party’s inception, many doctors inspired by the revolutionary movement have sought to unite under a common platform. A group of young doctors has already been actively engaged with the Health Wing of the National Citizens’ Committee.

With an increasing need for reform in the country’s healthcare system, they are now moving towards forming an independent organisation within the NCP.

The new group aims to advocate for doctors' rights and drive comprehensive healthcare reforms.

Dr Abdul Ahad, the convener, highlighted the need for such an initiative, stating, “Since the establishment of the National Citizens’ Committee, young doctors have been striving to revamp the healthcare system. Now, with the formation of this new organisation, we are taking a step forward towards achieving that vision.”

Dr Abdullah Jamil Tihan, another key figure in the initiative, emphasised the inclusivity of the new platform, saying, “Any doctor, except those who supported the autocratic regime, is welcome to join us. We believe young professionals hold the key to reshaping the country’s healthcare system.”

To facilitate recruitment, the group has launched a Google Form for interested doctors. A press conference is expected soon, where the official announcement of the new organisation will be made.
