BEPZA to begin plot allocation at Patuakhali EPZ in early 2026

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has announced plans to start allocating industrial plots at the upcoming Patuakhali Export Processing Zone (EPZ) from early 2026, even as land development work continues.

According to BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, about 55% of the land development work has already been completed. While the full development is expected to wrap up by June 2026, plot allocation is set to begin earlier, allowing investors to start factory construction alongside ongoing development.

Speaking to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Rahman highlighted the strategic advantage of Patuakhali EPZ’s location, citing improved connectivity through the Padma Bridge and proximity to Payra Port. This, he said, would provide industries with easier access to imported raw materials and export routes.

The EPZ, covering 410.78 acres in Pachakoralia Mouza of Auliapur Union under Patuakhali Sadar Upazila, will feature 306 industrial plots. BEPZA expects the zone to generate employment for around 100,000 people and boost export earnings, contributing significantly to the socioeconomic upliftment of Bangladesh’s southwestern region.

The project, estimated to cost Tk 1,443 crore, is being funded jointly by the government (Tk 1,105 crore) and BEPZA (Tk 338 crore).

Infrastructure development within the EPZ includes the construction of 3.15 lakh meters of roads, 30,000 meters of drainage, multiple multi-storey buildings—including four six-storey factory units, three 10-storey office complexes, and several residential buildings—along with key facilities like a zone office, customs house, security office, helipad, and 54 rehabilitation houses for displaced landowners. The zone will also feature substations to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

Patuakhali EPZ will become the ninth export processing zone in Bangladesh, joining the ranks of existing EPZs in Chattogram, Dhaka, Mongla, Ishwardi, Cumilla, Uttara, Adamjee, and Karnaphuli.
