The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a formal request to Bangladeshi citizens residing in Saudi Arabia, advising them not to attempt Hajj without an official permit.

The appeal aims to ensure efficient Hajj management, uphold the well-being of pilgrims and preserve the cordial relationship between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Adviser to Ministry of Religious Affairs, emphasized that all Bangladeshi nationals must adhere strictly to Saudi Arabia’s Hajj regulations.

He urged them to avoid unauthorized participation in the pilgrimage, which could result in serious legal and diplomatic consequences.

The Ministry also cautioned Bangladeshis against staying in Mecca or nearby holy sites on visit visas during the current Hajj season. Additionally, citizens have been advised not to support or assist others who attempt to perform Hajj without valid permits; this includes providing sponsorship, transport, accommodation, or helping them enter restricted Hajj areas.

Saudi authorities have introduced stricter regulations this year to better manage crowd control, enhance safety and streamline access to Mecca. According to these new rules, only individuals with valid Hajj permits, registered residency in Mecca (Iqamah) or official authorization to work in the holy sites will be allowed entry during the Hajj period.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced that violators will face significant penalties. Unauthorized pilgrims may be fined up to 20,000 Saudi Riyals. Those who assist violators could be fined up to 100,000 Riyals and their vehicles may be confiscated upon court order. Foreign nationals caught breaching Hajj laws risk deportation and a 10-year ban from re-entering the Kingdom.

These regulations will be strictly enforced from the 1st of Zilqad (April 29) to the 14th of Zilhaj (June 10). During this time, only those with appropriate documentation will be allowed access to Mecca and surrounding sacred areas.

Dr. Hossain highlighted that Bangladesh has substantial national interests tied to Saudi Arabia, including the presence of approximately 3.5 million Bangladeshi workers and highest volume of remittance inflows. He warned that non-compliance with Saudi laws could damage bilateral ties.

The Ministry reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to supporting a peaceful and organized Hajj in interest of global Muslim community.
