China lifts ban on new Boeing aircraft orders after tariff truce with US

China has lifted its informal ban on domestic airlines accepting new Boeing aircraft, according to a report published Tuesday, signaling a major thaw in trade tensions between Beijing and Washington.

Bloomberg News, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Chinese authorities have begun informing domestic carriers that they can resume placing orders for US-made planes. This move follows a significant de-escalation in the ongoing trade dispute between the two global powers.

The development comes just a day after both countries announced a temporary rollback of tariffs, agreeing to reduce levies for 90 days while continuing negotiations. As part of the agreement, US tariffs on many Chinese imports were scaled back from 145 percent to 30 percent, while China cut its duties on US goods from 125 percent to 10 percent, reports AFP.

Last month, Boeing confirmed that Chinese airlines had halted acceptance of new aircraft deliveries due to the steep tit-for-tat tariffs. The company had aimed to deliver approximately 50 planes to China in 2025, according to CEO Kelly Ortberg.

Neither Boeing nor China’s foreign ministry immediately responded to requests for comment on the reported policy shift.

US President Donald Trump hailed the tariff agreement as a “total reset” and indicated that further talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping could be on the horizon.
