Doctors, nurses and employees of the National Institute of Opthalmology and Hospital (NIOH) have been observing work stoppage since morning.
Centering the strike, an altercation and scuffle took place with the patients. At one stage, the patients alongwith their attendants were leaving the hospital in fear.
Police tried to control the situation by whistling.
Suddenly, a group of July Uprising victims, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital, started beating the protesters with lethal weapons.
A officer named Mizan was found injured on his head during the scuffle.
"July uprising victims hit Mizan's head," said a man who rescued Mizan.
Not only Mizan, several doctors, nurses and patients were also injured in the attack.
Doctors and nurses alleged that July injured attacked their peaceful sit-in programme with rods and sticks. They also beat up patients who came to the hospital for treatment. The attackers, with machetes, beat up doctors locking the main entrance.
Then, in fear, some left the hospital.
Director Prof Khair Ahmed Choudhury said that services will remain suspended at the hospital untill further decision from the higher authorities.
