Swechchhasebak League leader dies in Cumilla jail

A Swechchhasebak League leader died while in police custody at Cumilla Central Jail on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Imam Hossain Bacchu, 44, son of Golam Mawla, a resident of Mogoltuli area in Cumilla. He was a vice-president of Cumilla Metropolitan unit of Swechchhasebak League.

Senior Jail Superintendent in Cumilla Halima Khatun said that Bacchu felt severe chest pain. He was then taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Bacchu had been incarcerated since March 30, 2025, following a court order. He had been arrested by police from Kotwali Model Police Station in connection with two cases.
