Bangladesh marked a fresh chapter in its football journey with a 2-0 win over Bhutan in a FIFA international friendly held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The spotlight was firmly on debutants Hamza Choudhury and Fahmidul Islam — and both delivered.

British-born Hamza, who currently plays for Leicester City, scored on his debut, instantly endearing himself to the home crowd. Young midfielder Fahmidul, based in Italy, also made a strong impression with his confident touches and creative playmaking.

Team captain Jamal Bhuiyan led by example, providing a precise assist that set up one of the goals. Midfielder Sohel Rana added to the tally with a composed finish, securing a morale-boosting win for the men in red and green.

The match marked a significant moment for coach Javier Cabrera’s side, as the team looks to rebuild with a mix of international experience and emerging local talent. Fans at the stadium hailed the performance as a glimpse into a promising future for Bangladeshi football.

With Hamza and Fahmidul adding new depth to the squad, expectations are high as Bangladesh prepares for upcoming international fixtures.
