Travel ban on Salman F Rahman, 12 others in graft case

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Salman F Rahman, former adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-chairman of IFIC Bank, along with 12 others, in connection with an ongoing embezzlement investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Tuesday following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 

The order aims to prevent the suspects from fleeing the country and hampering the investigation.

The travel restriction applies to Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman (Salman F Rahman’s son); Sarwat Sultana Monami, Director of Serve Construction Ltd; Monirul Islam, Managing Director of Serve Construction & Engineering Ltd.; Mohammad Shah Alam Sarwar, former MD of IFIC Bank; Rabeya Jamali, former Director; ARM Nazmus Saqib, Kamrun Nahar Ahmed, Md Zafar Iqbal, Shah Md Moinuddin, former Deputy MD; Md Nurul Hasnat, Kaushik Kanti Pandit, Deputy Manager at Beximco Group and Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, former Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation.

According to the ACC petition, filed by Deputy Director Md Yasir Arafat, the accused are under investigation for allegedly embezzling funds from IFIC Bank’s principal branch through fraudulent loan disbursement in favour of Serve Construction & Engineering Ltd. 

Reliable sources indicated that the suspects might attempt to flee the country, prompting the need for immediate restrictions to ensure an uninterrupted investigation.
