Russell to retire from int'l cricket after Australia series

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has announced that he will retire from international cricket following the upcoming T20I series against Australia.

The Jamaican powerhouse, widely regarded as one of the most impactful T20 players of his generation, will bring his international career to a close at his home ground, Sabina Park, where the first two matches of the series are scheduled for July 20 and 22.

Russell, a two-time ICC T20 World Cup champion (2012 and 2016), has been named in the squad for Australia series, marking his return to the national side after missing England tour late last year due to injury.

In a statement released by Cricket West Indies, the 36-year-old expressed heartfelt gratitude for his journey in the maroon jersey.

"To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life," Russell said. "As a child, I never imagined getting to this level. But as I grew in the sport, I realized the legacy I could leave behind."

He added that ending his international career in front of a home crowd makes the occasion especially meaningful.

"Playing at Sabina Park, in front of my family and friends, means the world to me. I want to finish on a high and inspire the next generation to dream big," he said.

Russell's explosive performances and game-changing abilities have made him a fan favourite around the world. His departure will mark the end of an era in West Indies cricket.
