Southeast Bank director Alamgir Kabir has resigned. Earlier he lost the chairmanship of the bank on August 5 following the collapse of the Awami League government.
Now he resigned from the post of the director due to his involvement in various irregularities and fraud. He was earlier accused of turning the bank into his family business by holding the chairmanship for 20 consecutive years.
It is learned that Alamgir Kabir submitted his resignation to the chairman of the bank on Sunday July 20. He cited personal ground and physical illness as reason for the resignation.
Southeast Bank was established in 1995. The current chairman of the bank, MA Kashem was the sponsor chairman. In 2022,
MA Kashem, Azim Uddin and Rehana Rahman were earlier forcibly removed from the bank's board and NorthSouth University citing political reasons. Now they returned on the board.
on September 29 folowing the change of the government. MA Kashem was made chairman of the board of directors again. He is a former president of FBCCI and a member of the board of trustees of NorthSouth University.
Alamgir Kabir was the chairman of Southeast Bank for 20 years since 2004. He is accused of various irregularities including loan fraud, stock market manipulation, irregularities in bank purchases, recruitment etc. He is also accused of including interested parties on the board.
